NEWSLETTER -May 2008

Dear Parents and Pupils,

With the third exam session in 3 months just completed, you can now relax – a little – but still keep up the home practice.  Its amazing how the majority leave it until 2 weeks before an exam before putting in the practice.  I then see a HUGE improvement.  Just imagine how much even better you’d all be if you practiced throughout the year – and, because you’ll know the work inside out – you’ll be relaxed in the exam and who knows, you may even enjoy the exam!  There are syllabus DVDs available from IDTA Sales www.idta.co.uk/sales/dvd.html  - these are really helpful to assist home practice, especially if visual guidance is more useful than the notes I provide which to some pupils, I know, just appear to look like a knitting pattern! If you’re not too sure which DVD you need, please contact me first before ordering.

 A LOVELY PANTOMIME
13th JULY, 2:30 and 6:30pm
Hazlitt Theatre, Maidstone

Tickets NOW ON SALE: (£9.50 and £7.00, concessions) –
Tel. 01622 758611 or on line  http://www.hazlitttheatre.co.uk/tickets.htm

Prince Lovely is on a mission to find his childhood sweetheart 'Bikini' before he is betrothed to
the horrendous 'Roberta'. On his journey he meets various traditional pantomime and other
odd characters who help him on his journey.

Please  support this show even if your child isn’t appearing and if your child hasn’t been to the
Hazlitt   before, it will help prepare them for next year’s show when the
whole school, including the 3year olds,  are  involved.

CHAPERONES If you’re able to help chaperone one or both performances, please contact me. To apply or renew  the license. Tel. 01233 898674 and speak to Louise King I’ve currently got 6 people  who have offered their help.  It will be just for one show (as presumably you’ll be watching the other show) and rehearsals on the Saturday eve and/or Sun. morning. There are minimal quick changes, so it won’t be as hectic as the big Showcases!

SHOW PROPS  please help - I need the following - 4 or 5 small wooden tables (the older, the better); old wooden chairs   (about 10 – 15); wooden beer barrels and throne type chairs – does anyone have one of those high backed cane chairs popular in 70’/80’s or other high backed chair no longer required for decorating and spraying gold.

TERM DATES – sorry, I miscalculated number of weeks in this term, so term now finishing on 18th July (but Kings Hill Ballet and Larkfield Ballet and Tap will have classes on 19th).  The other Saturday classes will have several extra rehearsal which more than makes up for one less week!!  This still presents a problem with the Monday classes still having one week less because of May bank Holiday and two senior classes requiring the extra time before the July  We will arrange to fit in extra classes as best as possible, starting with the  following:

Senior Musical Theatre Dance            Wed. 7th May            7:30 – 8:30
Advanced Street Dance                        Wed. 14th May  7:30 – 8:30
Senior Musical Theatre Dance            Wed.4th June            7:30 – 8:30
Advanced Street Dance                        Wed. 11th June  7:30 – 8:30
Inter Modern                                    Wed. 18th June  7:30 – 8:30

UNIFORM    Now summer is arriving (well, hopefully)! I am happy for students to wear hotpants or leggings instead of bootleg trousers. So many pupils roll their trousers up, but then you just get the bulk at the thighs.
Hot pants are available from Joan Baker.  Email: prima.dancewear@tiscali.co.uk

IMORTANT : PLEASE NOTE
