NEWSLETTER - March 2008

Dear Parents and Pupils,

Dancing in Kent have recently visited Prima and written a very positive review.  This will be published in
one of their magazines shortly.  They have also given us a box of Feb magazines which are free – just help
yourselves!  and if you wish to subscribe to the magazine, visit http://www.dancinginkent.co.uk.  Other
magazines worth considering are Dancing Times http://www.dancing-times.co.uk  and Dance Expression
http://www.danceexpression.co.uk  The following site is also worth a visit for dance books – especially
students interested in training to do Teaching  Associates http://www.dancebooks.co.uk

KENT YOUTH BALLET   the recent auditions for this proved to be very popular but out of the hundreds of
budding Kent dancers who auditioned, the following Prima pupils successfully secured a place: Gina Cook;
Louisa Perry and Lewis Thornton.      The KENT YOUTH DANCE  auditions held in Herne Bay the previous
week saw Billie Devyea; Poppy Jones-Reid; Sophie Rideout and  Lucy Rowe secure a place. I’m sure everyone
will have a fantastic time taking part with these youth dance companies and gain so much from dancing alongside
professionals.  I believe Kent Youth Dance will be doing further auditions – when I have details, I will send email
and put on noticeboard.

IDTA AWARDS  are held annually in Feb/March and out of 6000 senior exams Inter Nationally,  (Gde 4 and
above), 300 candidates are selected by examiners to participate in these awards held in Manchester. From our
recent exam session, the following senior students have been nominated to participate in the 2009 Awards:
Lizzie Croucher; Yasmin McCullough and Andrew Stickells (Inter Ballet) and Yasmin McCullough and
Louise Johnson for modern Senior Grades.

WICKED Theatre trip (19th March) is now full (or at least the coach is full).  However, if anyone else wishes to
get tickets, the group booking was made through ‘See’ and if you wish to get seats near the Prima group, our
booking ref. was 70363003.  Obviously you will need to make your own travel arrangements.  Wicked is at the
Apollo Theatre, Victoria, so close to station.  The coach will leave Larkfield Leisure Centre at 5:00pm – can I ask
that everyone arrives by 4:45 for a name check and before the trip, email or text me their mobile phone numbers in
case I need to contact you (please leave phones switched on).  If you’re held up on the day, you can contact me on
07765 200378.

LATIN AMERICAN WORKSHOPS    We have tried to run regular classes, but there hasn’t been enough interest
(despite the popularity of Strictly Dance Fever etc).  I appreciate pupils can’t do everything, so we will try monthly
workshops (with termly workshops for 7-10 yr olds starting in summer term).  Dates to put in your diary are as
follows and please book in advance so that I know I have enough people to make it viable.:

  • ADULTS (16+) – Wednesday 26th March; 7:30 – 9:00 – cost £6.00 (or £10.00 for a couple).  This will be a Cha Cha and jive workshop.  If popular, following workshops will include samba; rumba etc.
  • 11 – 14 year olds – Friday 28th March; 7:15 – 8:30 – cost £4.50 (or £8.00 for a couple – bring your boyfriends!)

ADULT CLASSES  no classes on 19th March (Wicked Trip) and Thursday 4th April (sorry, I have another
commitment that evening) – but so as not to miss out, just come on the alternative day those weeks.

TIMETABLE CHANGES  I have emailed the proposed new timetable for the summer term – this will also be
pasted on website shortly.  The festival time changes will be effective immediately.
