NEWSLETTER -July 2008 Dear Parents and Pupils,With a show, an exam session and summer fair display, it is important that classes are not missed as with both show and exams, these last few classes are for polishing up and making good! If you haven’t already got your show tickets – get them NOW! – see below. Two seniors students, Shannon Harris and Laura Flawn are incredibly talented and have produced an original witty script and Shannon has written some amazing songs. The girls have worked so hard on this (as have the cast, of course)! So please try and support this show even if your child isn’t involved…and don’t forget to tell your friends. A reminder that it’s open day last week of term (term finishes 19th July) – the parents of older pupils are also welcome – much to their embarrassment – BUT, I think it’s good that you should see what they have achieved in normal syllabus work as opposed to their performances in the shows. CONGRATULATIONS to Lizzie Croucher who has secured a place on the Advanced Training scheme at Laban, Deptford, London (one of three leading UK contemporary dance colleges). Lizzie joins three other Prima students who have already completed 12 – 18 months training with the college. I think to have four students accepted on a course such as this is something Prima should be proud off. Anyone interested in seeing Amy Cumber, Louise Johnson and Yasmin McCullough perform in the Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) End of Year Performance in Laban’s own ‘Bonnie Bird’ theatre on 6 July, (Tickets: £5 / £3 concessions), please click here CONTEMPORARY DANCE I have a particular interest in contemporary dance and I am hoping to develop it further within the school with plans to create a performance group. It is an area of dance which offers more openings for anyone interested in a career in dance by itself and is the most common dance form studied on dance degree courses at universities. I welcome Kiran Chudasama to Prima Stage School who will be teaching contemporary dance from September. Kiran began his training at Mid-Kent College and followed this with a degree course at the University of Chichester. He now works as a freelance artist/choreographer, including teaching for the local Loop Dance Company. Kiran has already proved very popular with the students in the classes he has covered this term and his own unique style I’m sure, will be a hit! 13th JULY, 2:30pm and 6:30pm Hazlitt Theatre, Maidstone. UNIFORM ORDERS : Joan Baker – 01622 630296 or email prima.dancewear@tiscali.co.uk SUMMER HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS Although not organized by Prima Stage School, they are being led by Prima teachers and I offer my full support.
